Albuminuria is the presence of albumin in the urine and a marker of kidney damage.

It is normal for individuals to excrete very small amounts of protein in the urine, but the albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) is the first method of preference to detect elevated protein, measuring urinary ACR in a spot urine sample. ACR is calculated by dividing albumin concentration in milligrams by creatinine concentration in grams.¹
