How to pave the way to a 鈥淪mart Hospital鈥
Prof. Dr. Werner is firmly convinced that 鈥渄igitalization will make medicine better.鈥 When he took office a few years ago as Medical Director and CEO of the Essen University Hospital, he established digitalization as a corporate objective, and thus paved the way for the 鈥淪mart Hospital.鈥
As Prof. Dr. Werner sees it, hospital digitalization provides greater patient safety because there are fewer sources of error 鈥 since doctors and nursing staff can concentrate better on their core tasks. 鈥淢edicine today has a problem with processes and structures, not with knowledge,鈥 he explains. 鈥淲e have the knowledge, but we don鈥檛 draw on it enough. And yet it could help us take medicine a big leap ahead.鈥
