New clinical opportunities
Interventional MRI has the potential to offer new clinical opportunities in image-guided interventions. Real-time, high-resolution imaging during interventions can enable early detection and precise targeting of small lesions, as well as evaluation of treatment success2. These advanced capabilities can expand procedural possibilities and support precision and safety in a radiation-free environment3.

Real-time, high-resolution imaging
Using MRI in interventional radiology supports precise interventions through real-time high-resolution imaging4. The high soft-tissue contrast and improved visualizations provided by MRI can contribute to precise targeting, and could potentially support better outcomes5.

Precision without ionizing radiation
Using ionizing radiation-free MRI in interventions offers significant advantages. It eliminates exposure to ionizing radiation in the interventional space, which protects both staff and patients. This makes it particularly suitable for sensitive procedures and patients, and repeat interventions, where minimizing cumulative ionizing radiation dose is essential.
“iMRI addresses an unmet clinical need and capitalizes on the interventionalist’s skill sets, including imaging, diagnostics, guidance, and therapy, all in one. This represents the future of interventions.”
Partnership for innovation

World’s first XL bore with MAGNETOM Free.XL
Planned as the heart of the interventional MRI Suite, MAGNETOM Free.XL1 is being designed to deliver robust, real-time MR imaging for improved visibility of needle movement. Additionally AI-powered Deep Resolve improves image quality of soft tissue and small structures. An extra-wide >100 cm flared opening enhances access for MR-guided interventions while MR-compatible interventional equipment is meant to streamline the workflow. The small scanner footprint enabled by proven helium-free DryCool technology is designed for easy siting with fewer infrastructure challenges, while the Nexaris Dockable Table will enable easy and smooth patient transfer and handling. Everything will work together to simplify procedures and help break barriers in interventional MRI without compromise.
