Environmental, Social and Governance

At Siemens Healthineers, we value our stakeholders and are aware of the impact our operations might have on them and the environment. We place particular importance on the wellbeing of our employees and others affected by our activities and on maintaining high Health and Safety standards.

In support of our commitment to the Social Value Model and 天美影院, we have a long history of committing to improving the environment and supporting social value projects with robust approaches.

This is demonstrated by driving changes through our research and development, continuous improvement projects and the reduction in carbon across our organisation to create societies of the future.

  • With at least 50% of the world鈥檚 population having no access to safe, affordable and timely healthcare services, delivering healthcare is an urgent task. Overall, we aim to increase patient touchpoints in underserved countries by more than 75%, from approximately 147 million in FY 2020 to 220 million in FY 2025. In FY 2023, we reached 221 million patient touchpoints in underserved countries, increasing our FY 2020 figures by 50%. We are on track to reach our target by FY 2030.
  • In response to the urgent call from scientists to decarbonise the global economy, we are taking specific actions and pursuing a long-term climate strategy and goals. Siemens Healthineers has committed to being Net Zero in scope 1 and 2 by 2030, reducing scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by 2030, and reducing scope 3 emissions by 28% by 2030 and 90% by 2050. We reduced the scope 1 and 2 emissions in our own operations to 147 kilotonnes CO2e in FY 2024. That鈥檚 40.5% less greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) since 2019. This is a clear indicator that we are well on track to reach our target. Siemens Healthineers in the United Kingdom and Ireland have committed to being Net Zero by 2050. UK data and how we are going to achieve this is explained in the Carbon Reduction Plans below.
  • One particular focus of our sustainability strategy is to increase the number of women in senior management positions. To improve gender equality, the proportion is to be increased to 26% by FY 2025. As of 30 September 2023, we had 25% women in senior management positions. This is an increase of 35% since we began working on this focus topic.
  • The GB&I Management Team are leading this important work by supporting the local development of a network of champions to work collaboratively with our customers and other interested stakeholders.
  • We have invested in training for the Social Value Model at all levels in the organisation.
  • We will look to collaborate during bids and tenders to create dynamic and unique offerings that support the Model Award Criteria selected by the purchasing organisation.
  • Where required and appropriate, we will agree the measures to be collected and managed during the duration of the contract.
  • We will provide robust KPIs and reporting structures as part of our contract management and co-create continuous improvement and demonstrate how the initiatives will benefit and influence staff, suppliers, customers and communities through the delivery of the contract to support the policy outcome.
  • We have a number of existing policies and practices in place, which directly support the requirements of the Social Value Model.聽

In order to aid our company global goal of being Net Zero by 2030, in the United Kingdom and Ireland we are actively working to reduce our emissions and carbon footprint:

  • To minimise energy consumption, the UK HQ office has an integrated building management system which regulates heating and cooling, and lighting uses passive infrared sensors.
  • Reduction of mileage to customer site with the utilisation of equipment remote diagnostics and improvement of engineer allocation and routing via satellite tracking.
  • Launch of vehicle electrification programme in 2019.
  • Provision of specialist training to explain the correct equipment settings to maximise efficiency and performance of our products.
  • Delivering education and training remotely, when appropriate.
  • Facilitation of hybrid ways of working, enabling our staff to work from home.
  • Investment in technology so that all our staff use low-power computers and monitors.

Waste reduction measures

Most product packaging materials in shipments are returned to our factory in Germany for reuse or recycling.

Packaging used to deliver spare parts is generally used to ship the removed used spare parts back to Siemens Healthineers.

Sustainable product design

PREP (Product Related Environmental Protection) serves as our strategy for Eco-Design and covers products and packaging to identify improvements.

End of life product

We refurbish systems and reuse components and replacement parts whenever possible through our Refurbished Systems business.

Within our office environments

We segregate waste into the various waste streams to recycle wherever possible.
